A few
weeks ago I saw a cute ostrich painting on Pinterest. I wanted to see if I
could paint it. Thinking it was just a trial painting I turned over one of my
paintings I had nearby to test it out on the backside of the page. I then
decided to grab my kids former 8-color-count Crayola Watercolor paints – maybe
it had something to do with the fact that I was going to be blowing paint
through a straw like I did in grade school, but regardless the reason, I’m glad
I did! I think the colors turned out very fun. The whole project was fun! I
think using the back of watercolor paper, Crayola watercolor paints, and
blowing through a straw “allowed” me to just have fun like a kid! Not everyone
probably likes this kind of painting, but I fell in love with this little
character and can’t stop looking at it. It currently sits in my kitchen,
unframed, and totally not in sync with my décor, but he makes me smile! Don’t
the colors just scream “summer”?!!
We
recently went to visit my daughter and her family in Kentucky. My grandchildren
were excited for me to take my watercolors and paint with them, so that’s what
we did. I showed them how to paint my colorful ostrich, and look how great
their paintings turned out! I’m not sure if they had more fun painting or
taking pictures of their paintings, but we had a great time!!
Last
night, after a day of being mostly indoors, I wanted that “summer feeling”
about the time I should have been heading to bed. So I pulled out the Crayola
Watercolors and designed and painted my own ostrich pictures, using those
summer colors once again. What an enjoyable way to end a day!!

be outdoors, grab your Crayola paint and give it a try!! Just paint little
sections at a time and blow the paint around while it's still wet, using a straw. Protect the eyes and paint them
last. The blue and black will make them pop next to all those summer colors.
Then add some shadow with the blue paint and you’ll be smiling like me! I
showed my niece how to do this, and even though she hasn’t painted much, she
too is smiling and showing her painting to others. These ostriches just simply
make me happy!
